Luck

I don't know how the topic of luck or superstition came up and stuck with me for the pass couple days, yet it did, and here we are. I would go on a limb and say I'm fairly non-superstitious in certain settings, it's hard to explain but when it comes to social non-work related situations I tend not to be superstitious, for example I don't throw salt over my left shoulder if I knock a salt shaker down, nor do I avoid cracks on the side-walk as to not harm my mothers back yet at work it's a whole other ball game. They say bad luck runs in threes, and at work more often than not it actually does, it can manifests its way by having three of the same type of patients in an ICU at a given time or it be a run of three very nasty code blues. The same goes for "jinx" ones self. For instance for more than one person, including myself it seems the moment you put away your stethoscope you instantly jinx yourself and in a matter of minutes will need it once again and people it has happened, more than once. I'll paint a scenario. It's a ward day, a fairly average ward day, your stethoscope is weighing heavy on your shoulders, it's nearing the end of your shift, it's 7:10 p.m., with 10-20 min left depending on who your relief is. You think, okay time to pack it in, you get your lunch bag out of the fridge and you place your stethoscope away. Uh no "Code Blue" is called over head, it's 7:17 p.m. Ladies and Gentleman that has ACTUALLY happened. Therefore you see why indeed, at work, I tend to be superstitious.

Now luck is another bottle of weird. Do I believe in luck? Hard to say. I know that in life, there are some people who seemingly have all the luck in the world. School, Work, Love, and the such. Along with that comes the other side of the coin, the people who have "no" luck in the world with the afore mentioned. I can't seem to pin down luck. Is it really "luck" or is it all just random chance? I can honestly say that I believe that all things happen for a purpose but are some things in life left to luck? What I do think is that it's all left up to perception. What I think someone's "luck" is may not exactly be perceived as luck to that person and vice versa. Be it as it may, salt or no salt, crack or no crack, three's or no three's life will seem a lot longer if we don't stop and smell the four leaf clover

Yours in the month of April
N.
