I've become an old abuela! I have taken up a new hobby and it's something I never thought I would love this ardently. I now knit. I've even conjured up a knitting group. Our inaugural "Knit and Bitch" session was last Monday. It's hard to believe my hobby was once life's necessity. That a mother of pioneer days would have to spin up the wool of little bo-peep into thin or thick yarn to make her sons' winter sweater. The very sweater that would keep him warm through the harsh Canadian winters. I never thought I'd get such satisfaction seeing my hands work on the shoulders of a proud mother.
Terms such as "Casting on" or "Purl" which at first seemed utterly foreign to me have now became the common vernacular. It's a lovely hobby that if I had to choose only one word to describe it would be patience. You need a lot of it. Patience to learn, patience to see the work through and patience to teach. The reward? Wooly comfort!
Yours in the garter stitch,
N.
